The Resurrection Of Our Dreams
By Rev. Audrey Ortiz
It was probably
a beautiful morning yet you could feel the sadness and heaviness
in the air. It had been three days since Lazarus’ death and
Martha and Mary’s hope were dying out. "Where was the Teacher?"
they wondered. He could have healed their brother; but now, it
was too late.
Then someone came to the house with a shout; “He is here!.”
Martha ran out and, sobbing, poured out her heart to the Master.
Jesus said to her, "I
am the Resurrection and the Life. The (one) believing in Me,
though he die, he shall live. And everyone living and believing
in Me, shall not ever die forever. Do you believe this?”
(John
11:25, 26.
Literal Translation of the Bible)
I believe that
the Lord is asking you this same question today. Do you
believe this? Or do you believe in Him?
To all of us God has given dreams, a purpose that gives us the
devotion and
determination to go through anything, in order to see that
God-given dream become a reality. But many times, we let
circumstances and trials overcome our purpose, our devotion, our
determination, until that dream becomes so vague, and then one
day we wake up and see it is dead.
But in this passage of Scripture the Lord is making a powerful
statement, a
conditional promise that we, the Church of Christ, as heirs of
the Kingdom, should appropriate for our lives, and for our
dreams.
Jesus said :
“I am the resurrection and the life.”
The Lord states
to Martha that there is no other source for resurrection and for
life, except through Him.
Resurrection means rising from the dead, meaning that whatever
it is in your life—circumstances, trials, whatever thing in your
life that seems as if all hope is lost to survive — He alone can
bring it to life. Life means breath.
God in the beginning breathed upon man and it became a living
thing. There is nothing in this life that you can do, or make
you whole, or can completely satisfy, or be excellent, without
that holy and godly Breath of Life. He is the one that is
keeping you from falling. He is the one that is keeping you
today.
He also said:
“The (one) believing in Me, though he die, he shall live.”
The
resurrection of our dreams begins when we come to Jesus and
believing in Him we declare and confess: “Lord,
I don’t want to do it my way. I can’t go on without you. Be my
resurrection; kill all that is not a part of you, burn away any
iniquity, sin and ungodliness from my life; fill me with your
everlasting presence; I am lost without you.”
And once you do that, He will do the marvelous work of killing
all your filthiness and imputing holiness in your life.
It is then that your dreams begin to live again. You begin to
understand that as a child of the kingdom you have been given
grace, which is the ability to be what you cannot be and to do
what you cannot do in your own strength. And though you are dead
to yourself and to the world, you are alive in God,
because the holiness and amazing breath of Life is in you to
become that light of the world, that salt of the earth, that
hope to the lost world.
Then he says:
“And everyone living and believing in Me, shall not ever die
forever.”
We read in Matthew 6:19-21, that in this life you are to lay up
treasures in heaven. Eternity has begun now, and once you
understand this truth, you will not be overcome by the trials
and circumstances that strive and fight against the dreams that
God has given for your life. You will be able to stand strong
and fight the good fight of faith. You will be able to walk, to
talk, and to do all that Jesus did, being a living testimony of
the Kingdom of Heaven and knowing that whatever you do for His
glory, will turn into treasures in eternity, when you finally
live happily ever after with your Creator and Father God.
Lastly, he asks Mary:
“Do you believe this?”
The blessings,
promises, resurrection and life are available for the children
of God to manifest His Kingdom here on earth. The question to
every believer today is “Do you believe this?
Can you honestly say to the Lord that you believe in everything
that the Bible, the Book, your guidance for life, says and
prophecies over your life? Do you honestly, by faith,
appropriate the resurrection and the life? If you haven’t, all
you have to do is be honest with God, ask Him to give you the
faith and assurance that it is so, that all this is yours.
Receive the power of His resurrection and the power of His life,
and as He touches you, breathes into you, and raises you up, you
will see hope fill your heart and you will begin to trust again,
to believe again, and to dream again.
Receive His resurrection power over your dream today!
